A Definition

bur-lesque [ber-lesk]
a humorous and provocative stage show featuring slapstick humour, comic skits, bawdy songs, striptease acts (with the removal of clothing leaving a little to the imagination due to the artist still wearing pasties and a g-string at the end), and a scantily clad female chorus.

Burlesque has experienced a resurgence in popular culture. It’s no longer about bawdy entertainment for the working class man. It has evolved into a feminist, sex-positive, body-loving form of expression that explores archetypes and makes MAJOR cultural and political statements. It’s also TONNES of fun.

The audiences are mainly women. The shows are often produced by the women they feature. Behind the scenes you will find an entrepreneurial spirit and lots of feminine power. On stage you will see performers expose more than their bodies – they expose their minds and souls.

And of course, there is a whole lot of glitter.

Why Burlesque and The Desire Map?

The Desire Map started out as a book, written by Danielle LaPorte. From there, it became the driver of over 500 book clubs around the world. It became the base for amazing workshops. At the heart of it all? A commitment to feeling good.

Cynics would say that choosing to place your focus on feeling good is silly – maybe, even selfish. But I (and thousands of other Desire Mappers around the globe) know better. Because who wants to live a life that doesn’t feel good? Who wants to move, create and express in ways that are not based on being authentic, nourished and honoured?

Who wants to go through the motions? Not me. And I’m pretty sure, not you.

The Desire Map taught me how to make better choices by making decisions based on my core desired feelings. And that boils down to living a life that feels good to live.

I’ve watched this book inspire major transformation in my own life and in the lives of many others. I believe in this material — I know that it works.

Which is why, I’m taking my passion for The Desire Map one step further. I have become an Official Licensed Facilitator of The Desire Map. Woo!

I’m stepping up and offering to guide other people through the desire mapping process by hosting this very SPECIAL BURLESQUE workshop.

If you are an established performer, someone looking to enter the profession or want to get your Burlesque on just for yourself – my workshop will help you connect with your feelings. The ones that matter most to you. The ones that drive you when you make life choices, when you make business choices, when you make artistic choices.

What do you DESIRE to feel when you do burlesque? When you produce a show? When you collaborate? When you pick which shows to see?

Let me help you find the answers with your Core Desired Feelings.

How Do You Want To Feel?

Me? My CDFs are Poise, Full, Purpose, Radiance and Whimsy.

Seska Lee & Burlesque

My adventures in burlesque began in 2003 as an off shoot from my adult entertainment performances. I had the desire to use burlesque as a form of expression just as I did with my more explicit work. I didn’t want to pick one over the other and despite what many people told me then I knew could do both and I have!

I have graced the stages of Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Café Cleo, Club Soda, Lee’s Palace, MainLine Theatre and The Wiggle Room and performed many times with the acclaimed Scandelles and at the Montreal Burlesque Festival and the Grand Burlesque Show. I am the co-founder and co-producer for Team Burlesque and Acme Burlesque.

As a burlesque performer I enjoy mixing humour with sensuality. My performances take inspiration from artful languid striptease, vaudeville shtick, 1960s go-go dancing, and 1980s bouncy pop. When I develop a new number I always take my CDFs as my starting point. When I’m on stage I want to feel them from the top of my head, to the tip of my toes, to the points of my pasties!

Don’t you?
